Keep the lights on or buy food for Shabbat?

Families in our community are forced to choose every week.

And they're not strangers.

They're your neighbors,
your relatives,
your friends.

Shocking?

Yes.

But unfortunately it's true.

There are many families in our Brooklyn CommUnity who simply don’t have enough food to put on their tables for Shabbat or holidays.
  • Who have lost income due to layoff, sickness, or other difficult circumstances.

  • Who must choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table.

  • Who find themselves turning to Aishel Shabbat so their children won't go to bed hungry.

"If it weren't for Aishel Shabbat I would have to choose between paying the electric bill or buying groceries for Shabbat."

"These people who donate their time and money have no idea who the recipients are. It is a "hesed shel emet"! Aishel Shabbat is doing pure "hachnassat orchim".

Thank you for helping me make a beautiful Shabbat and put smiles on my family's faces!".
